Patient summary

This medication is indicated to manage fungal skin and nail infections and developed to target the underlying fungal growth.

Mechanism of action

Terbinafine inhibits the enzyme squalene epoxidase in the fungal cell wall. This action prevents the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of the fungal cell membrane, resulting in an accumulation of squalene, which causes cell death in the fungus.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: use only if clearly necessary. Breastfeeding: should be avoided as terbinafine is excreted in breast milk.
