Mechanism of action
Warfarin acts as a vitamin K antagonist by inhibiting the enzyme vitamin K epoxide reductase. This impairs the synthesis of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors II, VII, IX, and X, effectively prolonging the time required for blood to clot.
