Patient summary
Utilized to target bacterial and protozoal infection to alleviate symptoms and resolve the underlying infection.
Mechanism of action
Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole derivative that disrupts bacterial and protozoal metabolic processes. Once inside the cell, it is reduced, creating intermediates that damage DNA, thereby inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis and causing cell death.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Avoid during the first trimester. Breastfeeding: Suspend breastfeeding during treatment.
What you will receive
Flagyl is the originator brand name, made by Sanofi. We use it here to identify the medicine only; we are not affiliated with Sanofi and do not ship the original Flagyl.
- You receive a generic equivalent: the same active ingredient (Metronidazole) at the same dose, mostly recognised Indian branded generics from vetted manufacturers.
- The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock at the dispatching warehouse.

Flagyl availability in Asia
Flagyl is registered across 14 markets including Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia, with availability also in the Philippines, Indonesia and Taiwan.
