Uncomplicated Skin Infections

Uncomplicated skin infections are bacterial infections confined to the outer layers of skin, without deep tissue involvement or systemic signs. Impetigo, mild cellulitis, and infected minor cuts or abrasions fall into this group. They are particularly common in humid climates across Southeast and South Asia, where heat and sweating create conditions that let bacteria breach small skin breaks quickly.

What causes them and how they are treated

Most uncomplicated skin infections stem from Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes entering through a cut, insect bite, or cracked skin. The area typically becomes red, warm, and swollen; there may be pus or crusting. A short course of oral antibiotics clears the majority of cases. Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin that covers the common culprit organisms and is widely used across Asian markets for mild-to-moderate skin infections.

Keeping the affected area clean and dry supports recovery. See a doctor promptly if the redness is spreading rapidly, you develop a fever, or red streaking appears around the wound, these signs suggest the infection is moving deeper and needs urgent assessment.
