Premature Ejaculation

Premature ejaculation (PE) is the most common male sexual complaint worldwide, affecting roughly one in three men at some point. It is defined as ejaculation that occurs sooner than a man or his partner would like, repeatedly causing distress or interpersonal difficulty. It is a medical condition, not a character flaw, and most cases respond well to treatment.

What drives it

PE has both psychological and physical roots. Performance anxiety, stress, and relationship tension are frequent triggers, particularly in younger men across Southeast Asia where cultural pressure around sexual performance can be high. Neurobiological factors also matter: men with lifelong PE appear to have a naturally lower ejaculatory threshold, likely linked to serotonin receptor sensitivity. Erectile difficulties sometimes co-exist, since rushing to ejaculate before losing an erection is a common learnt pattern.

Treatment approaches

Oral medicines work on the serotonin pathway to extend the time to ejaculation. Dapoxetine is the only compound developed specifically for PE; it acts quickly and leaves the body fast, making it suitable for on-demand use. The broader premature ejaculation category in our catalogue includes dapoxetine-based products as well as combination tablets that pair dapoxetine with sildenafil or tadalafil for men who have both PE and erectile dysfunction.

Topical agents offer a different mechanism. Lidocaine-based sprays and creams applied to the penis a few minutes before sex reduce sensitivity locally, delaying ejaculation without affecting erection quality or a partner’s sensation when used correctly.

Behavioural techniques, the squeeze method and start-stop exercises, remain valuable alongside any medicine, particularly for men whose PE is mainly situational or anxiety-driven.
