Inflammatory Conditions

Inflammation is the body’s default response to injury, infection, or immune triggers. In the short term it is protective; when it becomes persistent or disproportionate it causes tissue damage and chronic discomfort across a wide range of diagnoses.

What drives the inflammatory process

The underlying mechanism is the same whether the trigger is an autoimmune signal, an allergen, or physical trauma: immune cells release mediators that cause redness, heat, swelling, and pain. Corticosteroids suppress this cascade broadly, which is why a single agent such as dexamethasone can be used across conditions as different as severe allergic reactions, inflammatory eye disease, and flares of joint disease.

Keeping inflammation manageable

Alongside medicine, consistent self-care reduces flare frequency. Maintaining a healthy weight lowers the mechanical and metabolic load on inflamed joints and tissues. A diet low in refined carbohydrates and high in oily fish, vegetables, and legumes is associated with lower inflammatory markers in studies across Asian populations. Sleep quality and stress management matter too: both poor sleep and chronic psychological stress measurably raise circulating inflammatory cytokines. For pain and mobility, structured physiotherapy or low-impact exercise tends to outperform rest over the longer term. See the pain management category for medicines that target the symptom side of the equation.
