What is Nucala used for?

Nucala is also used to help prevent flare-ups or reduce symptoms of high eosinophil levels (hypereosinophilic syndrome, or HES) in adults and children at least 12 years old. Nucala is given every four weeks by subcutaneous injection. Follow all directions on your medicine label and package.

What is the difference between Nucala and Fasenra?

Nucala and Fasenra are both biologic drugs, which are made from parts of living cells rather than from chemicals. Both medications work to reduce the number of eosinophils in your body. These are a type of white blood cell that’s involved in causing inflammation. Nucala contains the drug mepolizumab. Fasenra contains the drug benralizumab.

How effective is Nucala for asthma?

The second study involved 576 adults and adolescents given Nucala every 4 weeks for 28 weeks. The main measure of effectiveness in these studies was the number of severe attacks (exacerbations) of asthma that occurred during treatment, which was reduced by about half in patients given Nucala.
