What is Zyflo used for?
Zyflo is used to prevent asthma attacks and for long-term management of asthma in adults and children at least 12 years old. Zyflo may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Is Zyflo a rescue inhaler?
Zyflo ® (zileuton) is an oral drug used as part of a preventive and long-term treatment plan for asthma. It is not a rescue inhaler and will not help an asthma attack that has already started. Your doctor may also prescribe short-acting bronchodilators for emergency relief of an acute asthma attack. 1,2 How does Zyflo work?
Does Zyflo have a broken tab?
Also shown are Zyflo tablets, with one tab broken. Tablets are branded with the Abbott "a" logo and "ZL". Zileuton (trade name Zyflo) is an orally active inhibitor of 5-lipoxygenase, and thus inhibits leukotrienes (LTB 4, LTC 4, LTD 4, and LTE 4) formation, used for the maintenance treatment of asthma.
What are the side effects of Zyflo?
Signs of liver problems like dark urine, feeling tired, not hungry, upset stomach or stomach pain, light-colored stools, throwing up, or yellow skin or eyes. Trouble sleeping. Change in the way you act. What are some other side effects of Zyflo? All drugs may cause side effects.
Is Zyflo a bronchodilator?
Zyflo is indicated for the chronic treatment of asthma and should be taken regularly as prescribed, even during symptom-free periods. Zyflo is not a bronchodilator and should not be used to treat acute episodes of asthma.
How does Zyflo (Zye Loo ton) work?
ZILEUTON (zye LOO ton) prevents and treats the symptoms of asthma. It works by decreasing inflammation of the airways, making it easier to breathe. Do not use it to treat a sudden asthma attack.
