How does Serevent work?
Serevent is a long-acting beta2-adrenoceptor agonist (LABA) bronchodilator. It works by helping the muscles around the airways in your lungs stay relaxed to improve breathing. Serevent Diskus is used to prevent asthma attacks or exercise-induced bronchospasm.
Is Serevent a rescue medication?
Serevent is not a rescue medication, and people must not use it to treat sudden asthma attacks or COPD. People take salmeterol via a Diskus inhaler. This is a type of flat, round inhaler that provides a small amount of powdered medication in a puff of air that the person breathes in.
What are the side effects of Serevent?
These medicines may increase the risk of you experiencing side effects with Serevent, including irregular heart beats, or may make side-effects worse. Beta-blockers should be avoided when taking Serevent, unless your doctor tells you to take them.
When did Serevent come out?
It was patented in 1983 and came into medical use in 1990. It is marketed as Serevent in the US. It is available as a dry-powder inhaler (DPI) that releases a powdered form of the drug. It was previously available as a metered-dose inhaler (MDI) but was discontinued in the US in 2002.

Your medicine is called Serevent 25 microgram Evohaler but will be referred to as Serevent Evohaler throughout this patient information leaflet. Read all of this leaflet carefully before you start taking this medicine because it contains important information for you.
How long does it take for Serevent to work?
You will start to feel your medicine working within the first day of use. Serevent is for inhalation by mouth only. Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older with Asthma The usual starting dose is 2 puffs twice a day. For people with more severe asthma, your doctor may increase your dose to 4 puffs twice a day.
