What is Epanova and how does it work?
EPANOVA, a lipid-regulating agent, is a coated soft-gelatin capsule containing 1 gram of fish oil-derived free fatty acids, designated “omega-3-carboxylic acids,” with at least 850 mg of polyunsaturated fatty acids, including multiple omega-3 fatty acids ( eicosapentaenoic acid [ EPA] and docosahexaenoic acid [ DHA] being the most abundant).
What is Epanova ® (om3-ca)?
Omega-3 carboxylic acids (Epanova ®) [OM3-CA] is the first free fatty acid form of long-chain marine omega-3 fatty acids (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid being the most abundant) to be approved by the US FDA as an adjunct to diet to lower triglyceride levels in patients with severe hypertriglyceridemia (≥500 mg/dL).
What is Epanova ® (omega-3-carboxylic acids)?
EPANOVA ® (omega-3-carboxylic acids) is indicated as an adjunct to diet to reduce triglyceride (TG) levels in adult patients with severe (≥500 mg/dL) hypertriglyceridemia. Patients should be placed on an appropriate lipid-lowering diet before receiving EPANOVA and should continue this diet during treatment with EPANOVA.
Is Epanova a dietary supplement?
The first approval by US Food and Drug Administration was granted 05 May 2014. These fish oil drugs are similar to fish oil dietary supplements, but the ingredients are better controlled and have been tested in clinical trials. Specifically, Epanova contained at least 850 mg omega-3-acid ethyl esters per 1 g capsule.
What is Epanova used for?
Epanova is a prescription medicine used along with a low fat and low cholesterol diet to lower very high triglyceride (fat) levels in adults. It is not known if it changes your risk of having inflammation of your pancreas (pancreatitis). It is not known if it prevents you from having a heart attack or stroke.
Does Epanova reduce cardiovascular risk?
Lifestyle changes and potentially treating the underlying cause is likely to at least partly improve the condition and reduce cardiovascular risk. Epanova is a fish oil-derived mixture of free fatty acids primarily composed of EPA and DHA.
