What is Accolate used for?
Written by Cerner Multum. What is Accolate? Accolate is a leukotriene (loo-koe-TRY-een) inhibitor that is used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children as young as 5 years old. Accolate may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Is Accolate safe for children under 5 years old?
Accolate is a prescription medicine used to help prevent asthma attacks and for the long-term treatment of asthma symptoms in adults and children 5 years and older. It is not known if Accolate is safe and effective when used in children under 5 years old. The effect of Accolate on growth in children has not been determined.
When should Accolate be taken?
ACCOLATE is indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma in adults and children 5 years of age and older. Because food can reduce the bioavailability of zafirlukast, ACCOLATE should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.
What is Accolate® (zafirlukast)?
Accolate® (zafirlukast) is a synthetic, selective peptide leukotriene antagonist (LTRA). It is indicated to prevent asthma attacks by blocking the action of certain natural substances that cause swelling and tightening in the airways. 1-3 Accolate comes in tablet form. It is part of a preventive and chronic treatment regimen for bronchial asthma.
Who is Accolate used for?
ACCOLATE is indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma in adults and children 5 years of age and older. ACCOLATE is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to zafirlukast or any of its inactive ingredients. Cases of life-threatening hepatic failure have been reported in patients treated with ACCOLATE.
