What is the UK Air Pollution Assessment Service (UK APAs)?

The UK Air Pollution Assessment Service (UK APAS) was previously named the UK AERIUS project. However, as of April 2023, based on user research, the project has been renamed UK APAS to better reflect what it will offer. UK APAS is an output of the overarching Integrating Tools for Air Pollution Assessment (ITAPA) project.

What is a policy assessment?

Assessments validate the importance of the issue being assessed by providing an authoritative analysis of policy relevant information based on scientific questions. Assessments also provide the platform to analyze the benefits, costs and risks of various policy options.

What is the zero pollution monitoring assessment?

This section of the zero pollution monitoring assessment presents available knowledge and trends on air pollution and associated impacts on health, and assesses progress towards achieving relevant zero pollution targets and policy objectives. Air pollution is the greatest single environmental health risk in the EU.

How is air quality assessed?

To assess air quality, monitoring is normally undertaken at fixed stations and complemented by modelling — with data reported to the EEA and made publicly available.

What information is available to the public about air pollution?

The air quality information that is available to the public and where to find it. The Daily Air Quality Index used in pollution forecasts and summaries. Other sources of information which may be useful. For monitoring and reporting air pollution the UK has been divided into non-agglomeration zones and agglomeration zones.

What is air pollution assessment (APIs)?

APIS is a support tool for staff in the UK conservation and regulatory agencies, industry and local authorities for assessing the potential effects of air pollutants on habitats and species. As such, it aims to enable a consistent approach to air pollution assessment across the UK.

Where can I find a UK air pollution forecast map?

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), have a UK air pollution forecast map where you can see the latest air pollution levels for your area on a map. You can also search by town or postcode to see more local information. The images on the right give you the latest UK forecast for today and the next 3 days.
