Understanding Low Air Quality Issues
Low Air Quality FAQ
What is the daily air quality index (Daqi)?
The Daily Air Quality Index (DAQI) tells you about levels of air pollution and provides recommended actions and health advice. The index is numbered 1-10 and divided into four bands, low (1) to very high (10), to provide detail about air pollution levels in a simple way, similar to the sun index or pollen index.
What happens if air quality is poor?
During a period of very poor air quality, such as an air pollution episode, when the AQI indicates that acute exposure may cause significant harm to the public health, agencies may invoke emergency plans that allow them to order major emitters (such as coal burning industries) to curtail emissions until the hazardous conditions abate.
What is the daily air quality index?
The daily air quality index comes in three parts and includes additional advice for susceptible individuals, alongside advice for the general population: The short-term health effects of air pollution and action that can be taken to reduce impacts Step 1: Determine whether you (or your children) are likely to be at-risk from air pollution.
What does a low AQI mean?
So, the higher the value of the AQI, the more polluted the air and the greater the health risk. On the other hand, a low AQI means fresh air and low health impact. Why are there so many different AQIs? Most AQIs are linked to local laws and regulations.
